Volcanic Eruptions

Since Central America is on the Ring of Fire, it has many volcanic eruptions.   These four countries have about 20 active volcanoes. 

There have been over 15 eruptions in the last 30 years.

Two of the eruptions in the last 100 years lasted over 3 months.

 

This is an index of some of the eruptions that occured in the last 100 years.

1902 - Guatemala-buried city 1,000 deaths.

1902 - Guatemala- 19 days, 6,000 deaths.

1917 - El Salvador- June 6 until November.

1947 - Nicaragua- 300 square miles destroyed.

1960 - Nicaragua- lasted 3 months.

1998 - Guatemala- Pacaya erupted.
